A short overview

Your data should have a clear job.

We use account, squad, planning, social, subscription and technical information to operate the features you choose, keep the service secure, improve reliability and show advertising where applicable. The detail below explains those activities and their limits.

01

Introduction and scope

This Privacy Policy applies when you use the We Play FPL iOS or Android app, visit weplayfpl.com, contact support, or otherwise interact with We Play FPL. References to “We Play FPL”, “we”, “us” or “our” mean the operator of the We Play FPL service.

We Play FPL is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to the Premier League or Fantasy Premier League. The official Fantasy Premier League service has its own terms and privacy practices.

02

Information you provide

Depending on how you create and use an account, you may provide:

  • your name, email address, telephone number, country code and profile photograph;
  • an FPL team or manager identifier;
  • information supplied through Apple, Google or telephone-number sign-in;
  • profile choices, app settings, blocked-user and friend information;
  • messages, reactions, reports, photographs, voice messages, group details and other content you choose to share; and
  • support requests and any information you include in them.

Some information is optional. If you do not provide information needed for a particular feature, that feature may not work, but other parts of the app may remain available.

03

FPL and football information

When you add an FPL team identifier or use a connected feature, the app may retrieve squad selections, player identifiers, points, rank, transfer history, league membership, manager information and related gameweek information. Some of this is publicly available through the official game and may also be visible to other users.

We also process football information such as players, clubs, fixtures, availability, disciplinary status, transfer activity, prices, performance information and predictions. This information may be combined with your squad or plan to provide research, comparisons and recommendations.

04

Fantasy Connect

Fantasy Connect opens the official Fantasy Premier League sign-in experience inside an embedded browser. You enter your official login credentials into pages provided by the official service or its identity provider. We do not copy your password into our app database or send it to We Play FPL servers.

The official login session—including cookies, tokens and browser storage—remains in the embedded browser on your device. The app uses that session within the official page to verify that you are signed in and to obtain the connected team or manager identifier. We may then use that identifier and the associated team information to keep your squad and planning tools in context.

When you choose a supported connected action, We Play FPL may help place squad, line-up, captain or transfer-plan choices into the official interface. The official service remains authoritative. In particular, transfer, Wildcard and Free Hit confirmation remains with you on the official interface; We Play FPL does not silently submit those transactions.

You can disconnect Fantasy Connect in the app. Disconnecting removes the relevant official-service cookies and browser storage from that device. It does not delete information already saved elsewhere in your We Play FPL account, such as plans, nor does it delete your official Fantasy Premier League account.

05

AI Team Optimiser and recommendations

Despite its product name, the current AI Team Optimiser uses mathematical optimisation rather than a third-party generative AI model. When you run it, our cloud service processes the information needed to calculate a recommendation. This may include your current squad, player prices and selling values, available budget, free transfers, selected gameweeks, transfer mode, locked or excluded players, selected club constraints, formation preferences and prediction data.

The request is associated with your authenticated We Play FPL account so that we can secure the feature, check subscription or complimentary-use eligibility, apply reasonable usage limits and return the result. We retain account-level entitlement and usage records, such as whether a complimentary run has been used. The app may cache the exact request and result on your device so that you can revisit it until relevant prediction data changes.

The current implementation does not send Optimiser inputs to an external generative AI provider or use them to train an external generative AI model. You can avoid this processing by not running the Optimiser. Other recommendation features may process a smaller set of squad, gameweek, prediction and eligibility information in a similar way.

06

Plans, widgets and local data

Plans saved to your account may be stored remotely and can include plan names, gameweeks, squad and bench selections, formations, transfers, chips, captains, vice-captains, budgets and player purchase or selling values. We use this information to save, restore and calculate your plans across the app.

The app also stores some information locally on your device. This can include preferences, cached football data, connected-session data, Optimiser results and the information required to update home-screen widgets. Removing the app or clearing its data may remove local information, but does not necessarily delete information already stored in your account.

07

Social features, contacts and user content

If you use chat, friend, group, league or community features, we process the people involved, messages and media, timestamps, reactions, read or mute status, group details, friend requests, blocks and reports. Content you share may be visible to its intended recipients or community audience. A copy or operational record may remain after you remove the content from your own view.

If you grant contacts permission, the app reads contact names and telephone numbers on your device to help find people you may know. Telephone numbers used for matching are sent in batches as search values through our cloud service to look for existing We Play FPL accounts. Contact names are used locally to label matches. We do not use this feature to create a separate marketing address book. You can deny or revoke contacts access in your device settings.

Camera, photo-library or microphone access is used only when you choose to add a profile or chat image, take a photograph, or record a voice message. Media you send is uploaded so it can be delivered to the people you selected.

08

Technical, analytics and advertising information

The apps process technical and usage information needed to operate, secure and improve the service. This can include app version and build, platform and operating-system information, app installation or device identifiers, IP address, sign-in method, screens and features used, timestamps, performance events, crash traces and diagnostic details. Analytics and crash records may be linked to your We Play FPL account identifier after sign-in.

The free version may display advertising. Advertising and consent services may process advertising or device identifiers, IP address, general device information, consent choices, and information about ad requests, impressions and interactions. Whether advertising is personalised or limited depends on your region, consent choices and platform settings. On iOS, the app may ask for tracking permission. On Android, privacy options may be available inside the app where required.

We did not identify a request for precise location access in the current apps. A service provider may infer a general region from an IP address for security, analytics, performance or advertising purposes.

09

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we store push-notification tokens and related device information so that Apple, Google and our messaging service can deliver alerts. Notifications may include chat and friend activity, deadlines, price changes, articles, or other app updates you choose to receive.

You can change notification topics in the app where available and disable notification permission in your device settings. Muting a chat or user may prevent certain notifications without deleting the underlying content.

10

Subscriptions and payments

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play. We do not receive your complete payment-card or bank-account details.

We use RevenueCat to manage subscription access. Apple, Google and RevenueCat may provide us with or process an app-specific user identifier, store platform, product identifier, transaction information, purchase and renewal dates, expiration or cancellation information, and current entitlement status. We use this information to provide paid features, restore purchases, resolve billing access and prevent misuse.

Deleting your We Play FPL account does not automatically cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. You must manage or cancel it through the store account used to purchase it.

11

How we use information

We use the information described in this policy to:

  • create and secure accounts, authenticate users and prevent abuse;
  • provide squads, plans, research, recommendations, Fantasy Connect, widgets and social features;
  • deliver notifications and user-requested content;
  • manage subscriptions, feature eligibility and complimentary use;
  • measure feature use, diagnose crashes, monitor performance and improve reliability;
  • show and measure advertising where applicable;
  • respond to support, safety and user reports; and
  • comply with applicable law, enforce our terms and protect users, We Play FPL and others.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, the basis will depend on the purpose and circumstances—for example, providing a service you requested, your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, or a legal obligation. You may withdraw consent where consent is the basis, without affecting earlier processing.

12

When information is shared

We do not treat personal information as something to sell. We disclose information only as needed for the service or for the purposes described here, including:

  • to service providers that host data, authenticate accounts, send notifications, process analytics and diagnostics, manage subscriptions, deliver advertising, or perform requested cloud calculations;
  • to Apple, Google or the official Fantasy Premier League service when you use their sign-in, purchase, notification, advertising, integrity or connected-account features;
  • to other users when you choose to publish a profile, join a group or league, send content, or otherwise use a social feature;
  • when reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, protect rights and safety, comply with law or respond to valid legal process; and
  • as part of a business reorganisation, financing, acquisition or transfer, subject to appropriate safeguards and notice where required.

We may use aggregated or de-identified information that is not reasonably capable of identifying you for analysis and service improvement.

13

Third-party services

The service relies on independent providers with their own terms and privacy information:

  • Google and Firebase provide authentication, cloud data storage, server functions, app integrity, messaging, analytics, diagnostics and advertising services.
  • Apple provides platform sign-in, App Store purchases, push-notification delivery and device privacy controls.
  • Google provides platform sign-in, Google Play purchases, device integrity, push-notification delivery and advertising services on Android.
  • RevenueCat provides subscription and entitlement management.
  • The official Premier League and Fantasy Premier League service independently processes information when you visit it or use Fantasy Connect.

We do not control how an independent third party uses information for its own purposes. Review its privacy information and platform controls before using the relevant feature.

14

Data storage and international processing

Information may be stored on your device and on systems operated by us or our service providers. Those providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Privacy laws and government access rules may differ between countries.

Where required, we and our providers use recognised contractual or legal mechanisms for international transfers. The exact locations and safeguards can depend on the provider, service and your region; the providers’ privacy information contains further detail.

15

Retention and account deletion

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, keep records, protect users, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, enforce agreements and meet legal obligations. The period varies by the type of information and why it is held. Service providers may apply their own documented retention cycles.

You can request account deletion from the app. The current deletion process removes the authentication account and profile photograph and replaces or clears core profile fields so the account is inactive and no longer identifies you in the normal app experience. Content already shared with other users—such as messages, group activity, reactions and reports—may remain where needed to preserve conversations, safety records or other users’ experience. Saved plans, operational records, de-identified records and provider backups may also remain for a period where necessary.

Deleting the app only removes information stored on that device. It does not delete your We Play FPL account, official FPL account or store subscription.

16

Your choices and privacy rights

You can update profile information in the app, control contacts, camera, microphone, notifications and tracking through app or device settings, disconnect Fantasy Connect, manage advertising privacy options where available, and manage subscriptions through Apple or Google.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, objection to, or portability of certain personal information, and to complain to a local data-protection authority. These rights are not absolute and exceptions may apply. Contact us to make a request. We may need to verify your identity before acting.

17

Children’s privacy

We Play FPL is not intended for anyone below the minimum age stated in our Terms of Service, or a higher age where local law requires it. We do not knowingly invite a child who cannot lawfully use the service to create an account. If you believe a child’s information has been provided improperly, contact us so we can review the account and take appropriate action.

18

Website privacy

The current We Play FPL website is a static website. It does not include an analytics or advertising provider, contact form, embedded media, external font service or third-party tracking script. It stores only your manual light-or-dark theme choice in your browser’s local storage. That preference stays on your device and is not sent to us by the website.

The website itself does not currently set analytics or advertising cookies. Its hosting provider may process routine request logs such as IP address, browser information, requested page and timestamp to deliver and secure the site. Following an App Store, Google Play, official-service or other external link takes you to a third party governed by its own privacy practices.

If we add website analytics, advertising, forms, embedded services or other tracking in future, we will update this policy and provide consent controls where required.

19

Security

We use technical and organisational measures intended to protect information, including authenticated access, platform integrity checks and provider access controls. No internet transmission, storage system or software can be guaranteed completely secure. Keep your device and sign-in methods secure, and contact us if you believe your account has been compromised.

20

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when the product, providers or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy at this URL and update the dates at the top. We may also provide an in-app notice when a change is material.

For privacy questions, requests or concerns, contact support@weplayfpl.com. Please do not send account passwords, payment-card details or official Fantasy Premier League credentials by email.
